The problem of global warming is a disquieting subject that concerns everybody. Because of this, technological advancements are now being devoted to the creation of possibilities that could help environmentalists as well as individuals who have personal goals of assisting in the process of saving the environment. One of the most innovative designs of the experts with regards to modern gardening is the introduction of the homemade hydroponics setup.

The design of a homemade hydroponics setup takes into consideration the needs of the gardener and the limited area that is available in most homes today. Undeniably, the process has been one of the most intriguing approaches to urban gardening ever since it first came to public notice.

Technologists and agricultural experts of modern society have noted that they value the cooperation of each person in the process of taking care of the major issues that the environment is undergoing at present. Yes, the process of suggesting the need to create each resident’s own vegetation system in their own homes is certainly one of the most important solutions to take into consideration today.

Through creating your own homemade hydroponics setup, you are taking a great responsible step in helping the environment recover from the “global fever” that it is experiencing today. As you take this step, you are making a wise decision of keeping the environment healthy while receiving your own benefits through a healthier source of food and oxygen right within your own home.

To begin the project, it is important to have the right homemade hydroponics plan for you to work with. With the use of the right plan, the creation of a more efficient homemade hydroponics setup can be assured.

It should be known though that there are different types of homemade hydroponics setup that are approved by the experts who first introduced the system to society. By knowing the types of hydroponics system, the creation of the proper homemade hydroponics plan could then be started. Self-help books regarding the establishment of a homemade hydroponics setup are very useful for this.

Keep in mind that homemade hydroponics setup creations are not simply made for one’s own good. This simple step takes the entire movement along towards protecting the environment. Better and safer air can be achieved through creating a source of vegetation and gardening within each residential area in the city. This can grow into a larger scope of influence that could help everyone realize their own need to make a homemade hydroponics plan of their own.

In hydroponic gardening, the relative degree of acidity or alkalinity, known as pH, is a vital component of a plant’s environment. As the pH changes, so does the ability of the roots to absorb nutrients. But to understand how, and more importantly, what to do about it, it’s helpful to have some knowledge of basic chemistry.

pH is a measure of the relative concentration of hydrogen ions or hydroxyl ions. Calling them ‘ions’ means they are electrically charged. Hydrogen is positively charged, and hydroxyl ions are negatively charged.

The standard scale runs from 1-14. Numbers below 7 and nearer the 1 are more acidic (relatively more hydrogen ions), those higher than 7 and toward 14 are more basic or alkaline (more hydroxyl ions). Exactly 7 is neutral, no ions or a balance between acid and basic. Any free hydrogen (H) and hydroxyl ions (OH) will tend to combine to form water, H2O.

Plants in a hydroponic garden will do well with a near-neutral environment. Most plants thrive in slightly acidic conditions of 6.0-6.5. Apart from the chemical state in the roots themselves, nutrient solutions need to be well dissolved in the surrounding medium (often water), in order to be easily absorbed. A highly acidic or basic environment interferes with that.

Fortunately, it’s relatively simple to control the pH level with easy-to-use grow kits for hydroponic gardening. Grow kits come in varying forms, the two most common being bottles of solution and containers of powder. Both have their pros and cons.

Dry powder hydroponic grow kits tend to be somewhat less expensive. They store well, provided they’re kept sealed, and the material will last a very long time. But they generally require making up a solution before feeding the plants. Not only is the powder concentrated, but the environment will shift best when the material is in liquid form. Otherwise, the application is inevitably uneven.

Solution grow kits cost a bit more, but they’re ultra-easy to use. Just measure out the exact right amount, which is a little easier with solution than powder, and dilute or apply. Hydroponic kits vary. Many are highly concentrated solutions, others are premixed at the right concentration in the bottle.

But before knowing how much to apply it’s necessary to know the plant’s environment at that time. That, too, is easy using a pH testing kit.

Older testing methods which are still available and often used consist of simple colored strips. The paper strip is dipped into the plant’s medium and turns color due to an embedded dye. The color is compared to a chart to gauge the pH level.

As you can imagine, that’s a fairly inaccurate way to judge pH by contemporary standards. Digital meters for hydroponic gardening are popular today and are generally more reliable. But they do need to be cleaned between tests to maintain accuracy. The paper strips can simply be thrown away.

Whichever hydroponics grow kit and testing method you choose, it’s essential to keep the plants’ pH near optimal levels. The difference between 6.0 and 5.0 represents a ten-times difference in the concentration of acid present. Small numeric differences matter.

Many people who consider growing vegetable do not think about doing it through hydroponics because they feel in some way that it is unnatural. The truth is that you can use organic hydroponic nutrients making the process one hundred percent natural. While yes the light will come from a bulb and the plants will not be placed in the ground, the actual process of growth can use one hundred percent natural products if you use organic hydroponics nutrients. The addition of these organic hydroponics nutrients provides a great base for the natural growth of your plant. There are many benefits of using organic hydroponics nutrients. The first of which is that it maximizes the growth of your plants and provides you with healthy alternative to store bought vegetables. By growing your own hydroponics plants you can assure that there will be no pesticides or unnatural additives put in. You are one hundred percent in control and can use completely organic hydroponics nutrients to make absolutely sure that your plants are getting only natural and non toxic treatment.

Not only will this mean that your plants are healthier and stronger, it also means they will taste better. By controlling and adding the correct nutrients to the plants you can control not only their growth pattern, but certain elements of their size and taste as well. Using organic hydroponics nutrients in conjunction with properly timed lighting you can take specific control over your plants. This will lead to much better crops and food that is far less expensive then what you would get in the store.

This brings us to another benefit of using home made organic hydroponics nutrients – cost. By doing the growing and manufacturing of the nutrients on your own you can keep costs at a minimum and plant growth at a maximum. You will find that your plants not only taste better, but your crops are bigger and that you will save a ton of money from having to buy expensive grocery store veggies. I find growing peppers and tomatoes at home can save around 10 to 20 dollars a week in grocery bills. If you are a vegan or a vegetable lover setting up and using a home hydroponics system is the only way to go. It is an enjoyable hobby that will save you money instead of costing you a ton of money.

Gardeners and horticulturalists are used to getting grimy. They root around in the soil, applying fertilizers and pesticides. They plant, divide and re-plant. They do all this for the rewards of producing beautiful and nutritious plants to view and eat. But what if you could gain those values without coming into contact with any soil at all?

That’s what hydroponic gardening is all about.

Hydroponic gardening is the science and practice of growing plants without using soil. Water is the most common medium used instead. There are more technically accurate definitions, to be sure. But for the home gardener, hobbyist and occasional teacher that’s what it comes down to.

But how is hydroponic gardening even possible? Don’t plants need soil for nutrition, heat, support, water and all the other things they need to grow and reproduce? Not necessarily.

Plants definitely do need water. But they needn’t get it from the soil, even though that’s one of the most common methods. Even in nature, some plants grow in sand, gravel or even on the surface or underneath a body of water.

Plants need a certain amount of energy, in the form of sunlight and/or heat from their surroundings. But soil warmed by sunlight isn’t the only way to get that. Direct sunlight still works on leaves, the same way it does for plants in soil. Leaving the upper part of a plant exposed to sunlight supported by a string atop a container will allow vital photosynthesis to occur. As with nearly anything in botany, there are exceptions. Some plants survive and reproduce with no light, though they still need some energy to drive biochemical reactions.

Most plants that interest the home gardener or hobbyist do require physical support. Planting them in soil is one common and effective way to achieve that. That’s one of the reasons roots spread and stems are wind resistant. If they hadn’t evolved that way, those types of plant wouldn’t be here to discuss. But artificial aids, such as strings on supports, ice cream sticks glued to the top of a glass and dozens of other methods will work quite well.

One of the most important elements for a plant is without question proper nutrients. Nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and a host of trace elements (zinc, copper, iron and others) are essential to plant growth. Absorbing those elements from the surrounding soil is, of course, one usual way of obtaining them. But, here again, nutrients can be fed to plants in a number of ways.

Immersing the roots in a container of water that is periodically fed a liquid nutrient solution is one popular technique. There are others. Some hydroponically grown plants are housed in an enclosure that retains moisture well. The roots are then sprayed often with a mister that douses the roots with a nutrient solution. This crosses into the gray area known as aeroponics.

Hydroponic gardening can be used to grow a wide variety of plants: strawberries, tomatoes, lettuce and many non-fruit or vegetable plants, such as orchids. The list is long. Thousands of species can thrive without soil, provided they’re cared for properly. That effort can be fun and instructive. Hydroponic gardening can also produce beautiful or nutritious plants without many of the drawbacks of soil-grown plants.

When it comes to hydroponics, virtually every plant can be grown without soil. By supplying the plants with the necessary nutrients, it will grow healthy and strong. Some of the most popular hydroponics vegetables that are cultivated in a hydroponic grow box are beans, cucumbers and tomatoes. The plants are supplied with nutrients through the use of fans, timers, lights, and other equipment that can be adjusted to fit your needs.

A grow box provides the correct atmospheric conditions in order for the plants to grow healthy and strong. When a plant is young and weak, it takes certain conditions to help it grow. A special enclosure set up for hydroponics can regulate the lights, moisture and nutrients it needs.

A hydroponic grow box looks somewhat like a square tent. It usually has two different colored sides, the inside being white, the outer being black. It will have an access to the inside, closed and opened either by a zipper or snap closure, which will allow you to take care of the plants.

A grow box can range in price from a couple hundred dollars to a couple of thousand. They can be found in local grow shops or gardening stores, and they can also be purchased online. There are a variety of different lights and fixtures that you can use with the enclosure. With a little research, you can find the one that fits your needs.

Hydroponics is becoming a favorite hobby among gardeners. Many hobbyists agree that the growth of the beautiful plants is well worth the money invested. With hydroponics, there is no hard work, such as pulling weeds, to help the plants grow.

Being environmentally friendly is another reason many people are drawn to hydroponics. There is less use of water and insecticides when you grow your plants using a hydroponic grow box or other hydroponics method. Lights that help save energy can be purchased to help save electricity. The use of timers on heaters and fans can also be helpful, and sometimes necessary. Timers can also help save life span in bulbs and other equipment.

It has been established that soil is not required to grow a plant, and that just providing the basic elements required by a plant is enough. These elements are known as hydroponics nutrients. Normally, any plants can be selected as hydroponic plants. But it is found that hydroponic growing is ideal for certain plants like cucumbers, beans etc. Many people choose to raise their hydroponic plants in something known as a hydroponic grow room.

A hydroponic grow room is a portable enclosed space that provides the correct atmosphere for your hydroponic plants to flourish. It is also known as a grow tent or a grow box. The light, temperature, humidity etc. required by the plant are regulated inside this grow room. It is where your plants are to be kept, especially when they are smaller. Also it provides a safe and protective environment for the plants to grow.

A hydroponics grow room is usually made of plastic material. Its design is stretched around a set of poles. Most grow rooms come with a white inner surface and a black outer surface. The white surface helps to reflect the light and the black outer surface absorbs light. They typically come with a zipper at the door which will give you access to your plants easily.

Hydroponic grow rooms aren’t necessarily cheap, so it’s usually only serious hydroponic gardeners who use them. They are typically available at specialty retailers and at numerous locations online. Normally no tools are required to assemble the grow room and it takes less than an hour to set up.

A hydroponics grow room is made in such a way that plants and nutrients can be changed as per the requirements of those who grow the plants. All hydroponic equipment can be installed as per your needs. Carbon scrubbers, fans, timers and other equipment can be set up to suit your requirements.

Hydroponics is a hobby that is growing in popularity. It is a great pastime as you can produce beautiful and healthy plants, and it is also known to be quite stress relieving. Having a hobby that provides beautiful and healthy plants without the hassle of digging in the soil gives the grower relief from weeding, hoeing and tilling.

Hydroponic gardening is also environmentally friendly. This type of gardening uses considerably less water when compared to traditional gardening. You can select different types of equipment and tools as per your choice and requirements. Many would consider that the most important of all these is the hydroponic grow room.

Through this process the essence of the plant contained in the seed breaks forth, sprouts, takes root and grows. This growing process continues as the plant obtains the essential nutrients through the soil and in conjunction with the proper amounts of water and light.

However, due to the lack of these essential items and population growth globally, other planting systems need to be discovered or improved upon. One of those systems is a plant hydroponics system.

Therefore, in order to be knowledgable about this plant hydroponics system, it is important to know what hydroponics is, how this plant hydroponics system works and its advantages.

A plant hydroponics systemis a process that helps to facilitate the growth of plants from seeds. Specifically, the word hydroponics is derived from two Greek words. Those two Greek words are hydro and ponics. Hydro is Greek for water and ponics means to labor.

Therefore, hydroponics literally means “water labor.” Subsequently, a plant hydroponics system means one in which the nutrient process is accomplished by the water.

This is accomplished as the water that interacts with the root system of the plant is infused with the proper percentage of needed nutrients. Those nutrients include calcium, phosphate, magnesium, etc. The power of the plant hydroponics system is that the nutrients found in the water are easily absorbed by the root system because they are delivered through an easily absorpable medium or water.

There are several advantages associated with utilizing a plant hydroponics system. One of those advantages is the production of a crop when there is no or limited availability of fertile soil. This is particularily helpful in those parts of the world that are arid in nature. Examples of this type of terrain can be found the Southwestern part of The United States or in the mid-East.

Also, if a person lives in a high-rise building or has limited property available for crop growth, hydroponics can be especially useful.

The only other feature that is needed to promote growth using a plant hydroponics system is utlizing the equivalent properties of the sun in regard to the needed growth. However, this can be easily remedied through the use of a plant lighting and hydroponics system. A good system will emit more light in the blue and red spectrum. Light in these two spectrums are very conducive to plant growth.

As the population increases globally and the limited natural resources available dwindles, there is an ever increasing need for new ways or improvement on current plant growing techniques to be accomplished. One of those techniques that is not new, but is effective is hydroponics.

Therefore, when discussing hydroponics it is important to know what hydroponics is, its advantages and one single technique of hydroponics. That single technique of hydroponics is single plant hydroponics.

Hydroponics is a plant growing system that does not require the use of soil. In fact, the word hydroponics is comprised of two Greek words. The first word is hydro and means water. The second word is ponics and is Greek for labor. Therefore, hydroponics literally means “water labor.”

Subsequently, hydroponics is a growing system or process that is dependent upon the water rather than the soil. This occurs as the water itself is comprised of the proper percentage of the appropriate nutrients needed to nurture the plant and bring about the corresponding fruit associated with that plant.

Therefore, rather than the plant receiving the nitrate, phosphate, magnesium, etc. through soil, the plant obtains these nutrients through the ionized water.

There are many advantages realized through this type of growing process. Two of those advantages are that the nurturing process for the plant is enhanced and that less water or strain on natural resources is obtained.

Specifically, the beauty of this process is that the nutrients are available through a watery medium rather than through soil. This is beneficial because the roots of the plants are better able to absorb a watery medium and thus able to be more efficient in obtaining the needed nutrients. In addition, this efficiency utilizes less water and therefore is less of a strain on this precious natural resource.

One additional benefit is that soil is not required. This can be especially advantageous if there is limited soil or if the area of crop growth is not conducive to agriculture. This can be especially true in arid regions such as the mid-East or in the Southwestern part of The United States of America.

In addition to the possibilities of producing large crops from various plants, there is the reality of implementing single plant hydroponics. The plant hydroponics system utilized is the same, however the scale of production is minimized to just one plant.

Single plant hydroponics can be most beneficial. This benefit can be realized by individuals who may reside in the city and have limited soil or space in which to cultivate a crop. By using a single plant hydroponics, with appropriate artificial light, the individual can grow a crop of tomatoes or other type of produce all year around and enjoy the benefits of such a crop regardless of whether there is sufficiet soil or despite the weather patterns.

If asked what is required to plant some seeds or grow a plant, most people would generally answer with four essential requirements. Those four elements are commonly believed to be the seed itself, light, water and soil.

However, these days, with the need to grow more food to meet the demands of a growing global community, other methods need to be developed or improved on. One of those methods that has been improved upon is hydroponics planting.

To fully understand this process it’s important to know what hydroponics planting is and what are the advantages of hydroponics planting.

Hydroponics planting is the process in which the seeds of soon to be plants receive needed growth nutrients through specially treated water. This water is generally infused with the proper percentages of nutrients needed to properly nurture the seeds that will soon become a plant. Often those nutrients include such minerals as calcium, phosphate, magnesium, sulfate, and dihydrogen phosphate.

There are three methods by which hydroponics planting is accomplished. These include the static solution, the non-static solution and aeroponics. Each of these methods delivers the treated water to the plant, but they vary in how the process is accomplished.

For example, the static solution means that the plants are grown in a closed container. The types of containers used in the static hydroponics planting process include jars, buckets, and various sized tanks. The person using this type of hydroponics planting system aerates the plant and adds the ionized water on a regular basis.

The non-static solution of hydroponics planting is the exact opposite of the static solution process. Fundamentally, the water solution provides quick access to the plant through the easy absorption of the treated water easily through the root system.

The aeroponics process is similar but uses a misting or vapor like process to provide nutrients to the plant’s roots.

There are many advantages associated with the use of hydroponics planting. The main advantage of hydroponics planting is that soil is not required. This can be extremely beneficial if fertile soil is not available for crops to be planted. This can be especially promising for the growth of crops in such arid countries as the Middle East or the Southwestern part of America.

In addition, single plant hydroponics can be developed when an individual wants to grow a particular crop but does not have the soil needed to plant the appropriate seeds. Examples where single plant hydroponics can be demonstrated is give individuals living in a high-rise or in an area where the use of planting soil is limited.

When it comes to growing crops from a seed there are four important elements to make the process successful. Those four key elements to successfully nurturing a plant from a seed include the seed itself, soil, water and light. This traditional way of growing crops has proven to be successful and provides the global community with the food that they need. However, the world is changing. Specifically, those changes include the global community increasing in size and the earth’s natural resources correspondingly decreasing. Therefore, it is important that new methods of farming be implemented or existing methods of farming be enhanced. One such method of plant growth that can be enhanced is the method known as hydroponics. In order for this to occur, it is important to know what hydroponics is, the advantages of hydroponics and the correlation between plant lighting and hydroponics.

 Amazon.com Widgets

Hydroponics is the plant growing technique that does not utilize the traditional medium of soil. Specifically, the word hydroponics is a combination of two Greek words that capture the process involved. The first Greek word is hydro and hydro means water. The second Greek word is ponics, which can be translated into the word labor. Therefore, hydroponics literally means “water labor.”

In other words when it comes to providing the nutrients for the planting process to blossom, the nutrients or the nurturing process is accomplished by water. In particular, those nutrients needed are various elements required by plants. Some of those elements include phosphate, calcium, magnesium, etc. In addition, rather than the rich soil providing these elements to the plant, water is ionized with the proper percentage of these minerals. This in turn allows the roots of the plant to absorb these elements and to promote growth and productivity.

One additional and critical component to the planting, nurturing and developmental growth of the plant is sunlight. Generally, for crops planted outside in the soil this critical factor is provided by natural sunlight. However, because of hydroponics and the need for soil eliminated, this type of planting can occur almost anywhere.

This advantage then necessitates the use of plant lighting and hydroponics to be accomplished artificially. Fortunately, there are available on the market plant lighting and hydroponics systems that can accomplished this need quite nicely.

When looking for a plant lighting and hydroponics system it is important to secure lighting that provides at least one of two specific spectrums of light. Those two spectrums include the use of light through either a blue or red spectrum.

If choosing lighting in the blue spectrum, ideal lighting for growth, the individual can use a metal halide plant lighting and hydroponics system. Or if interested in closely assimilating the growth process to the natural sunlight method it is best to use a high pressure sodium plant lighting and hydroponics system.
